About Me

Me and Piggy

With the late great Piggy. We got her when Stella, our elderly neighbor died and left her to us. Amazing factoid: when we got Piggy, she was twice her ideal body weight and had to have 13 teeth pulled. She'd spent the first 6 years of her life eating cheese and hot dogs and watching The Price is Right with Stella. Don't let this happen to you! Turn off the computer and go outside once in a while.

I work in broadcast operations at a TV station. I set up satellite feeds and record shows. I switch what's on the air, rolling the commercial breaks and transitioning between programming. I also count backwards from 10 really well. Basically, I watch TV for a living, and if I nod off the screen goes black. Picture Homer Simpson at the nuclear power plant and you're not far off.

My name is Renee (a.k.a. Skwigg). I'm 41 years old. I'm wildly in love with Michael, my husband of 17 years. We don't have any human children because we're frightened of them. We do have two canine children - an Australian Shepherd, and a German Shepherd Husky mix. I work in television and Michael is a musician.

I'm fitness obsessed. I've been working out regularly for a couple of decades. The first 10 years or so, I just sort of went through the motions as a flabby, rice-cake-eating aerobics bunny. Then I stumbled across the Body for Life program and got a clue. I started eating and training more like a bodybuilder. Heavy weights, more protein, more supplements, 6 meals a day. Dramatic stuff happened and I was really hooked!

This is Ripley at 12 weeks. She has a fixation with her water bowl. She likes to put her nose under the water, cross her eyes, and blow bubbles. When that gets old, she stands in it and stomps... which is why she and the water bowl are on the back porch in this photo.

This is the giant electromagnetic field that is my home away from home. (Perhaps that's what's wrong with me?) We have a machine here that's actually labeled, DANGER! GIANT ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELD! If you get to close to it, it will stop your watch, erase your credit cards, and send you back in time.

This is my handsome husband, Michael. He's a rock musician in case you couldn't tell by looking at the hair. He is very charming, and talented, and funny. This allows him to get away with playing electric guitar at volumes that will peel paint off of walls... generally while I'm trying to write.

This is my buddy, Samantha. She's a German Shepherd/Husky mix that likes to run. She doesn't bark like a normal dog. She'll look you right in the eye and make bizarre Husky sounds that are more like screaming or speaking in tongues. My response is usually, "What is it, girl? Did Timmy fall down the well?"

Just another day in the airless, windowless digital void.

Pictures from my first 12-week Body for Life Challenge Jan-April of 2000. I gained 5 lbs of muscle and lost 7 lbs of fat. It changed the whole shape of my body even though the scale barely moved. I *love* my new arms!
